Waterfront Winterfest at Penn’s Landing Takes Shape
By Danya Henninger
November 7, 2013
The Waterfront Winterfest at Penn’s Landing is taking shape. We already knew there would be a George Sabatino pop-up at the new holiday village, which will surround the Blue Cross RiverRink. Now we know the restaurant will be called The Lodge, and it will be housed in a huge warming tent set up over a structure made from locally sourced shipping containers.
Organizers are also teasing a few of the dishes Sabatino will serve, including a Thanksgiving leftover “hot pocket,” mashed potato fritters, caramelized pumpkin donuts and smoked turkey legs. We can also look forward to special dinners from other Philly chefs as well as mobile food carts.
It all begins on November 29 and runs through January 5, during which time you can head to the Delaware riverfront and skate on the Olympic-sized rink and then make your way through the winter garden and forest encircling it. In addition to The Lodge, the tent will be home to the Art Star Holiday Market, offering boutique crafts and gifts from a unique assortment of vendors. Also look for a holiday light show synced to music - running every hour from 5-11 PM - and special events like skating with Santa.
Hours will be 11 AM-1 AM, seven days a week. Admission to the village is free; skating rink admission is $3 and skate rental is $10; food is pay as you go.
