Beer Brewing Certification at UCSD Extension

With the home-brewing phenomenon on the rise, and beer growing in popularity across the country, UCSD Extension plans to meet the need for more beer education. The first session of its new brewing certificate program - taken at your own pace in a part-time, evening and/or weekend classes - kicks off this February. And just to prove this is serious stuff, a transcript showing proficiency in pre-calculus is required for admittance to the class. Students can expect to log hours of studying each week. Courses in University City include sensory evaluation and beer styles, operation management, and yeast and fermentation processes. According to the website, certificate completion can be finished in 18-24 months, depending on course load. A free information session is scheduled on February 3 for prospective students who are 21 and older. More information here.
