Weekly Planner: Spanish Cooking, Greek Fest & More

Tuesday, June 10
Learn the art of Spanish cuisine at Sur La Table’s hands-on workshop. Seats are still available at the Mission Valley location. The 2 ½ hour class includes recipes for seared scallops with romesco sauce, spiced pork tenderloin with pomegranate sauce and crème Catalana. The workshop begins at 6:30 PM and is $69 per person. Friday, June 13
The 12th annual Beer & Sake Fest is being held at Harrah’s Resort Southern California. Guests will enjoy a variety of Japanese spirits including sakes and beers as well as appetizers from local restaurants. A silent auction, exploration of Japanese culture and ukulele concert is also included in the evening which starts at 7 PM. $60 for members and $90 for nonmembers. Purchase tickets here.

Taste wines from California, Washington, France, German, Spain, Portugal, New Zealand, South Africa and more for Bottlenotes 2nd annual Around the World in 80 Sips. The event at Humphey’s Half Moon Inn & Suites on Shelter Island starts at 7:30 PM for the walk-around tasting with light hors d’oeuvres and chocolate. Celebrate Greek culture during the San Diego Greek Festival starting Friday at 5 PM and continuing through the weekend. The event at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church in Hillcrest features Greek cuisine, dessert, coffee and live entertainment. Admission is free on Friday but increases to $3 on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday, June 14
The 5th Annual San Diego Oysterfest returns to Marina Embarcadero North featuring shellfish from British Columbia and the West Coast. This 21-and-over event also includes chef demos, beers, wines and cocktails, as well as live entertainment. The headlining act is Matt and Kim. The fest begins at noon. General admission tickets are $27.50 or $65 for reserved seating, private no-host bar and access to private bathroom. Visit the event online to buy tickets. 

Sunday, June 15
Be among the first to check out the San Diego Rum Society’s Inaugural Tasting at Harbor Town Pub. The first gathering will include four rum tastings, hand-shaken daiquiris and chicken wings. The event starts at 3 PM and is $35 per person. Reserve a spot on Facebook
