This Week's OpeningsBy Zagat Staff
November 21, 2013
Debuts this week include a bakery walk-up window in San Francisco, a massive beer hall in Mountain View and a wood-fired grill restaurant in Oakland. Read on for more details:
• The new Marla Bakery Kitchen Communal at 613 York Street in San Francisco is slinging sandwiches, brioche donuts, ice cream sandwiches and other sweets as owners get ready to open a restaurant in the Outer Richmond in the first half of next year.
• Bierhaus has opened at 383 Castro Street in Mountain View, in the former Steak Out restaurant. As Inside Scoop SF notes, the nearly 300-seat space is just a few blocks away from the splashy, year-old Steins Beer Garden. Looks like some competition is brewing.
• Berkeleyside mentions how anticipated the opening of Penrose has been. Located at 3311 Grand Avenue in Oakland, it is the new wood-fired grill restaurant from Charlie Hallowell, who is behind Boot & Shoe Service and Pizzaiolo. Think steak, crudo, flatbreads and killer cocktails.
