Get the Scoop on Cool Seasonal Ice Cream Flavors

Summer might be considered prime time for ice cream, but these fall-inspired flavors just might get you fired up for licking something cold and sweet on a cone.

    At Molly Moon's various locations, pumpkin and black pepper flavors are among the seasonal standouts:

    The spicy pumpkin-clove is made with organic pumpkins from Stahlbush Island Farms in Corvalis, OR. Meanwhile, apples for the cider sorbet are picked to order, before being combined with fresh ginger juice and cinnamon. Finally, black pepper crème fraîche, which borders on savory in the best possible way, is the star of a seasonal sundae called "Don't Get Fraiche."

  • Cupcake Royale's buttermilk cream cheese ice cream has chunks of Stahlbush Pumpkin Cake, along with a little nutmeg, cinnamon and cardamom.

  • Full Tilt's newest flavors include chocolate pumpkin cheesecake, pumpkin pie with bits of crust, goat cheese with candied walnuts and a fig swirl, as well as an orange anise ice cream with fresh cranberries. Resident ice cream whiz Justin Cline also recently released a limited edition Mudhoney ice cream to celebrate the iconic grunge band's 25th anniversary. It's cinnamon with a fudge swirl.

  • The pastry team at Tom Douglas restaurants get way creative in coming up with ice cream flavors, but we're especially high on the new rye. It just might remind you of a cross between the booze and the bread, and is especially fine when it's paired with an apple spice cake at Dahlia Lounge or in a stout float at Brave Horse Tavern.

  • While it's hard to pass up the dark chocolate at D'Ambrosio Artisan Gelato, we're also nuts about the featured fall flavor, pistachio. These aren't just any pistachios, either. They're fat, green and full of pistachio-y flavor and they're imported from Sicily. Come to think of it, one scoop of pistachio and another of chocolate sounds like a winning combo.
