In November, news broke that James Tracey was leaving his post as executive chef for Tom Colicchio’s Craft Restaurant Group to take a job with Stephen Starr. Now we have official word of what he’ll be doing: everything. Tracey is the new culinary director for Starr Restaurants.
Tracey will work alongside new COO Kevin Stuessi as Starr Restaurants continues to grow. Since Stephen Starr founded it in Philadelphia in 1995, the organization has grown to be one of the largest multi-concept restaurant companies in the country. There are currently 22 Starr venues operating in Philadelphia, three in New York City, two in Atlantic City, two in Florida and one in DC.
While Starr Restaurants were originally known for showy decor and themed concepts (see the Buddakan Buddha above), recently Starr and his group have been focusing on chef-driven endeavors and providing great food. Le Diplomate in Washington has been hailed as one of the best brasseries in the region, and Serpico in Philadelphia has received similar acclaim. With the addition of Tracey at the culinary helm, we’re sure to see - and eat - more great things from the organization.
