10 New Outdoor Dining Options at DC Restaurants

By Rina Rapuano
April 4, 2014

This may have been a particularly long, cold winter - but there's a silver lining. During all those dark, blustery months, there were an awful lot of restaurant openings, meaning this spring brings a host of new places where you can eat and drink alfresco. And while the weather hasn't allowed them all to be camera-ready quite yet, here are 10 notable new patios ready to blossom when the sun finally does arrive:

Where: Agua 301
When It Opens: April 14
How Many Seats: 50
What to Order: Pork-belly al pastor tacos and fun frozen cocktails like the margarita, peach sangria or watermelon margarita.
Good to Know: It’s so close to the stadium you can hear the cheers, making this riverfront patio perfect for a pre- or post-game drink.
301 Water St. SE; 202-484-0301

Where: Bidwell
When It Opens: First week of May
How Many Seats: 50
What to Order: Gin-and-tonic salmon or a patty melt - and some of the excellent cocktails.
Good to Know: The patio will offer the full menu with specials and run a happy hour Tuesday through Thursday, plus brunch on Saturday and Sunday. It will be right outside of Union Market, which makes for good people-watching.
1309 Fifth St. NE; 202-547-0172

Where: Bluejacket
When It Opens: The patio currently is open Thursday through Sunday from 11 AM-10 PM - and those hours apply to days when there are home games at Nationals Park, as well.
How Many Seats: 72
What to Order: From the grill, guests can order a double cheeseburger, babyback ribs with slaw and kielbasa with peppers and onions.
Good to Know: The patio will have a large, state-of-the-art grill manned by chef Kyle Bailey and an outdoor bar where three to six Bluejacket beers will be flowing.
300 Tingey St. SE; 202-524-4862

Where: Catch 15 Restaurant + Oyster Bar
When It Opens: Already open
How Many Seats: 22
What to Order: Bar bites like oysters on the half shell, truffle fries and sliders washed down with a glass of bubbly or a Pimm’s Cup.
Good to Know: Diners can sit in one of the loungey chairs at a table or at the outside portion of the ice bar.
1518 K St. NW; 202-969-2858

Where: Duke's Grocery
When It Opens: Already open
How Many Seats: 45
What to Order: The food menu changes daily, but the Blackberry Bourbon Lemonade - smashed blackberry syrup, bourbon, crème de cassis, fresh lemon, bitters and champagne in a pint glass - is more of a sure thing.
Good to Know: This sunny patio opens at 8 AM Tuesday through Friday, 11 AM on weekends and at 5:30 PM Mondays.
1513 17th St. NW; 202-733-5623
