There’s plenty to do if you’re in town this weekend. Local parades are always fun, and there are wine and food tastings, auto racing on the streets of Baltimore, and a rock ‘n’ roll garage sale. Read on for some highlights.
Alexandria Restaurant Week is humming through Sunday, September 1. Bargains await at casual neighborhood faves as well as high-end spots. Work up an appetite by strolling scenic Old Town. Check out participants and deals.
Charm City may not have the pizzazz of Le Mans France, but it will have open-wheel and sports cars ripping around a two-mile street course at speeds up to 180 miles an hour today, tomorrow and Sunday at the Grand Prix of Baltimore. And when you get parched and peckish, head for the Taste of Maryland and its beer and wine bars. For details, go here.
The Black Cat’s annual Rock-N-Shop garage sale, happening Saturday August 31 brings out fashionistas looking for the perfect T-shirt, and vinyl buffs looking for collectibles (free; DJ spinning all night).
This is the last weekend to putt around the National Building Museum’s indoor mini golf exhibition. It closes after Monday (go here for details). While you’re there, check out Hill Country’s Backyard Barbecue on the museum's lawn. It will be dishing out Texas cue and Shiner beer on Saturday or Sunday, with live music both nights.
Grand Tasting of Epicurience Virginia at Morven Park on Saturday August 31, offers an elegant setting for a food and wine tastings, demonstrations featuring top chefs like Kaz Okochi (Kaz’s Sushi Bistro) and Roberto Donna (Al Dente), live bands and wine shopping (11 AM-6 PM: $95, $175, VIP; go here for tickets and details).
Jaleo’s annual La Tomatina Festival kicks off on Monday, September 2. For two weeks, there’ll be special dishes and cocktails using the ripest and juiciest fruit.
