- Rasika executive chef Vikram Sunderam was named Best Chef Mid-Atlantic yesterday by the James Beard Foundation. Other nominees this year were Cathal Armstrong of Restaurant Eve, Baltimore’s Spike Gjerde of Woodberry Kitchen and Cindy Wolf of Charleston, and Brad Spence of Amis in Philadelphia.
- This is the week to buy tickets for ZooFari, the annual food and wine event at the National Zoo that takes place May 15 from 6:30-9:30 PM. A grill-off will take place from 7-8 PM, and such chefs as RJ Cooper of Rogue 24, Frederik de Pue of Menu MBK, Todd Gray of Equinox and Michel Richard of Central will be part of the festivities. - ShopHouse Southeast Asian Kitchen opened a storefront at 710 Seventh St. NW today. The fast-casual Asian sibling to Chipotle also has introduced a seasonal vegetable component, replacing broccoli with kale for the moment, and recently added a coconut rice and mango parfait to the menu. The new Penn Quarter shop will be open daily from 11 AM-10 PM.
- The Washington Post reports that Jrink juice bar has opened near Dupont Circle serving 11 varieties of cold-pressed juices (1323 Connecticut Ave. NW, upper level; 202-280-0302).
