The catastrophic Gulf oil spill continues to devastate a region still reeling from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. On June 8 at Union Station, the St. Bernard Project’s effort to help displaced fisherman from these tragedies will be boosted by a cocktail party with live jazz held aboard (and on the adjacent track of) a vintage 1927 rail car (restored by the Patrón Spirits Company, a co-sponsor of the event). Chefs including Ann Cashion (Johnny’s Half Shell), Jeff Tunks (Acadiana, DC Coast), David Guas and Brian Landry (New Orlean’s Galatoire’s), as well as Congressman Charlie Melancon, Senator Mary Landrieu, and Councilman Jack Evans, will be hosting the event. Then, on June 9, there will be a fund-raising dinner for $350 per person (6:30–9 PM; Track 1 or 31; $50 per person; to reserve, go to www.stbernardproject.org).
