Changes are afoot at Meatpacking District eatery, 5 Ninth. Having been open since 2004, the restaurant can be considered a survivor at this point, in an area that features a faster turnover rate than brunch tables at Pastis. The management has enlisted chef Brandon Chavannes to handle the menu revamp. He joins the eatery from the John Dory, and keeps the menu within the comfort food arena. More importantly, he keeps things inexpensive, at least for this neighborhood. With entrees everywhere creeping into the $30 range, you can still find plenty of hearty fare on offer here around the $20 mark (take a look at the full menu below).
The restaurant is also working on a new lounge space on the third floor that will mix up those trendy pre-Prohibition style cocktails that are all the rage (we wonder if the bartender will have a mustache and armbands). The lounge is yet to be named, but expect it to draw crowds once it's officially up and running.
