Meet the Mayor of Momofuku Milk Bar

The Milk Bar Mayor best food

Nathan Archambault, Foursquare's Mayor of Momofuku Bakery & Milk Bar.

Foursquare, the mobile social networking game that lets users "check into" restaurants, bars, gyms and more, has become a bit of a media darling in the past year, and we at Zagat aren't immune to its charms – you can find our tips on many Foursquare listings, after all. But who are the folks doing all that checking in? We thought we'd find out. Meet Nathan Archambault, a 30-year-old copywriter living in the East Village, who's the Mayor of David Chang's Momofuku Bakery & Milk Bar.

Zagat Buzz: When did you first visit the Milk Bar?

NA: The day it opened. They took over my old laundromat, so I’d been keeping an eye on it since construction started. I would have been bitter if it had been anything less useful than a laundromat.

ZB: What's your favorite dish or dishes there?

NA: Everything is so unique – I get a different thing every time. If I had to call out a few, I’d say I order Crack Pie, the Cornflake Cookie, Grasshopper Pie, Chocolate Chip Cake and Candy Bar Pie. All while mixing in a healthy dose of soft serve and pork buns.

ZB: Did you aspire to be Mayor, or did it just happen?

NA: It just happened. I live up the street and stop by two or three times a week, so it’s pretty easy to maintain. Though a few months back, I lost the Mayorship for a while and I wasn’t happy about it. I guess I didn’t realize what I had until I lost it.

ZB: Has being Mayor changed your experience at all?

NA: Not at all. I mean, half the staff knows me, I go in there so much, but they’re not aware I’m the Mayor. I don’t flaunt.

ZB: Does your Mayorship extend to any other properties? Are there other places you’d like to be Mayor?

NA: I’m Mayor of a few other random places, like my favorite Thai place, Zabb City. It’s right next door. There are a few places [where] I’d like to be Mayor, but I don’t go out of my way for it. I’m a big fan of Everyman Espresso and Shoolbreds, two other neighborhood joints. I like supporting the ’hood.

For me, there are too many places worth trying in New York to worry about going to the same ones over and over again. Though I just started working near Jacques Torres, so I may try to squeeze out the current Mayor. Jacques is always there, so maybe I’ll ask him to pull some strings.

ZB: If you could do anything with your Mayoral power, what would you change at Milk Bar?

NA: I wish there were shorter lines. It’s amazing how much butter and cream that place dishes out.

ZB: Is there anything else the world should know about the Mayor of Milk Bar?

NA: I split every dessert I get. I swear.
