Shake Shack Sets a Date for DC

May 17 should be a red-letter day for burger mavens – that’s when NYC’s uber-popular Shake Shack is slated to open its first DC outpost below Dupont Circle. Chauvinists have been speculating for months about how its legendary grilled beef patties, hot dogs, frozen custard and breezy hospitality will measure up  to  local talents like Ray’s Hell Burger, BGR, the Burger Joint and Good Stuff Eatery – not to mention, the homegrown Five Guys. Soon, they can patty down (1216 18th St. NW).
