Shrove Tuesday Specials in London

While Mardi Gras – more commonly known as Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Day – is cause for colourful celebration in much of the world, it’s often overlooked in the U.K. If, however, you are taken by the need to flip some batter – or indeed enjoy the fruits of someone else’s flipping – there are some options. Soho’s Gay Hussar is offering them Hungarian-style with sweet and savoury palacsintas from £4.95; Langtry’s in Knightsbridge is making a week of it with an £11.50 deal of a sweet or savoury pancake and a glass of Champagne; and at Giraffe you can "pimp your pancake" with a variety of sweet toppings including marshmallows and Maltesers (starting from £5.95 for three pancakes and four toppings of your choice). If you’re the competitive type, head to Zilli Fish from 8 AM on Tuesday to see if you can beat Aldo Zilli’s Guinness world record for pancake tossing (117 times in a minute), or to the St. Pancras branch of Crêpeaffaire for the chance to win a year’s supply of free crêpes. Flipping heck.
