Who doesn't love a good deep dish pizza?

From the Sears Tower to the Magnificent Mile, the Mayors Daley to Barack Obama, the Windy City lays claim to myriad icons. But arguably none better define the Second City than its great culinary contribution: the deep dish pizza.
Consisting of a buttery pie crust slowly cooked with layers of cheese, tomatoes and other fresh toppings, the deep dish pizza and its stuffed sibling (like deep dish but with more, um, stuff and an extra layer of crust on top) exist on a different plane than their thin-crust cousin with its single slices and lack of depth. Visiting Chicago without trying a deep dish pie is possible, but why would you want to?
To prove that point, the Buzz sent our local photog Emily Capo around town to capture classic deep dish in all its cheesy glory (none of that trendy nonsense). Click here to see what she found. For a list of the other top pizza joints around town, click here. And if all this gooey goodness has you hankering for a taste of the Midwest, stay calm. Most of the featured pizzerias would be elated to send a par-baked frozen deep dish pie your way, just follow the links in the slideshow.
