Named for the multiethnic neighborhood in Glasgow where Top Chef winner Ilan Hall grew up, The Gorbals, an Eclectic newcomer opening Friday in Downtown LA, is a reflection of his Scottish-Jewish upbringing, with elements tossed in from the time he spent cooking in Italy and Napa – and from his stints with Charlie Palmer, Mario Batali and Tom Colicchio; set in the grandly restored Alexandria Hotel, the stained-glass and polished-wood space includes an open kitchen.
