Summertime in the city begs for quick meals outdoors, a need that's gotten easier to fill thanks to the many food trucks around town. Here's a quick sample:
Debunking the myth that all food carts focus on meat, the friendly, quirky food truck Clover Food Lab, on MIT’s campus on Carleton Street in Kendall Square, doles out delicious vegetarian delights on the cheap for breakfast and lunch, offering everything from coffee and housemade muffins to egg-and-eggplant sandwiches (follow them on Twitter).
Downtown Crossing is known for its pushcarts, and Herrera’s Burritos can satisfy a rice-and-beans craving, while Karo’s BBQ (Summer & Hawley Sts.) specializes in sizzling chicken kebabs.
Love a kick? Silk Road BBQ in Belmont is new this year. Just outside of Cushing Square, this roadside Asian features jerk chicken, pulled pork and salads.
Finally, If you want dogs, chase down Speed’s Hot Dogs in Newmarket Square (on the edge of the South End; 617-839-0102); otherwise save yourself for The Sausage Guy outside of Fenway Park (617-268-8324).
