L2O's Tatami Room
Super-modern seafood restaurant L2O recently unveiled its tatami room, which can accommodate two to eight diners. Inspired by chef Laurent Gras’ trips to Japan, the private space is appointed with grass-mat floors, yellow cedar sunken tables and leather-upholstered zaisu seats. Guests trade their shoes for slippers before entering the room, where they are served a kaiseki-inspired tasting menu. Presented by a kimono-clad server, the 15-course meal follows a designated progression of small portions made with luxurious ingredients. It may begin with freshly squeezed juices, Japanese tea and amuse-bouches and continue with exotic seafood selections (both raw and cooked), which are followed by sweet and savory dishes and specialty desserts ($225 per person; reservations must be made at least 24 hours in advance, 773-868-0002).
