Self-taught toques will relish a new cookbook-themed cafe, not to mention several recently published volumes on cookery.

Following the major revamp of the InterContinental Park Lane, Cookbook Café, the hotel’s new everyday dining room (separate from Theo Randall’s upscale eatery), lives up to its name with recipe tastings and cookery classes; a regularly changing Modern European–British menu includes four daily specials prepared to order at an open station in the middle of the floor.

Published in May, Angela Hartnett’s first cookbook, Angela Hartnett’s Cucina: Three Generations of Italian Family Cooking (Ebury Press; £25), is inspired by the food she loved to eat as a child and the classic dishes prepared by her Italian grandmother. Meanwhile, Gordon Ramsay’s Fast Food (Quadrille; £19.99) includes 120 recipes from the third series of his TV show The F Word. Among the meals are five-minute snacks, 10-minute main courses and 30-minute menus for all occasions.
