Whether you know it as Mothering Sunday or Mother’s Day (as the expats call it), you'd better get your skates on to find the perfect place to take your mum on 2nd March.

Le Pont de la Tour: Mothering Day sees the launch of a Sunday lunch menu offered in both the restaurant and bar and grill; it costs under £25 for three courses – that includes entertainment from a live three-piece band (12–4 PM; £19.50 for two courses, £24.50 for three; 020-7403 8403).

Number 12: This colourful new Bloomsbury restaurant is launching a new menu too – it will now serve Sunday brunch from 11:30 AM–3 PM, running the gamut from boiled eggs with brioche and asparagus soldiers to a traditional roast. And if you want to get a gold star, you can combine brunch with a visit to the British Museum nearby (020-7693 5425).

Oxo Tower Brasserie: Treat mum to one of the best views in the City at this South Bank Med where the kitchen has worked up a special £40 three-course meal that includes dishes like porcini-and-ricotta tortelloni with mushroom-cream and fried artichokes; a children's menu will also be available (020-7803 3888).

Porters: If your mum is craving a traditional celebration, this Covent Garden classic is offering a three-course meal for £24.75, including a complimentary glass of Kir (020-7836 6466).

Waterloo Brasserie: Every mum who dines at this Waterloo newcomer on Mothering Day gets a rose and some homemade chocolates (020-7960 0202).

Just as mums range in ages, so do children. If you need a kid-friendly spot, here are some suggestions that are open on Sunday: Bibendum, Boxwood Café, Chez Bruce, Tom’s Kitchen, Le Café Anglais, Oliveto, River Café, The Wolseley, Yauatcha and Zuma.
