If these trying times have you craving escape, Barts, an American speakeasy–style boîte in Chelsea offers it in spades; a hard-to-find location and an unassuming door with a bell (entry must be granted) mask the tiny, dark and glam space, in which Prohibition-era tunes fill the air, kitsch informs the decor (e.g. Mickey Mouse wallpaper) and costume-filled trunks inspire dress-up; quirky and expensive as the whole experience may be, unchallenging comfort comes in the form of victuals like macaroni ’n’ cheese and shepherd’s pie.
