For those who fancy going to a top chef's home for dinner and paying for the privilege, there's more news on The Loft Project. Last year Nuno Mendes, a 'between jobs’ chef, turned his Dalston house into a pop-up restaurant catering to guests Thursday–Saturday evenings. But now that Mendes is off setting up his new restaurant, Viajante, in Bethnal Green Town Hall (due in March), rather than close the well-received pop-up, he’s now saying mi casa es su casa to other chefs. From 18 February until 13 March, Ben Greeno, whose impressive CV
includes stints at Danish restaurants Noma and Kommandanten as well as
Nottingham’s Sat Bains and New York's Momofuku, will have a chance to rattle Nuno’s pots and pans.
Each Loft Project event serves a maximum of 16 guests and features a 10-course tasting menu with drinks paired throughout the evening. It's £100 per person, paid in the form of a one-off membership fee. Sadly, you can't just turn up and ring the doorbell. To make a reservation, the membership form must be downloaded from the website and sent with an e-mail requesting a booking date and desired number of guests. Technically you could book for 16. This way, Mendes hopefully won't have to count the cutlery when everyone leaves (call 020-729-3995 or e-mail info@theloftproject.co.uk for more information).
