There’s no better place to be on July 4 than Philadelphia.
This year’s big party – headlined by Sheryl Crow and The Roots and followed by fireworks over the Philadelphia Museum of Art – takes place at dusk on the Ben Franklin Parkway (concert begins at 8:30 PM; fireworks start around 10:30 PM). Regulars recommend parking near the restaurants of Fairmount and Logan Square for dinner and then walking to the festivities. If you're looking to grab a bite first, try these spots:
London Grill and Rembrandt’s: Both of these exude classic Philly neighborhood vibes, and, in keeping with the theme, offer New American fare, plus decent beer lists (London Grill: 215-978-4545; reserve online; Rembrandt's: 215-763-2228; reserve online).
Illuminare: One of the closest eateries to the action, this stylish brick-oven pizzeria offers modest-priced Italian cuisine (215-765-0202).
Kite & Key: For a contemporary gastropub take on the holiday, head to this spot off Logan Square and enjoy the display from its sidewalk seating (215-568-1818).
