At the casual new Gator's Neo-Soul Café in Downtown San Mateo, chef Glenn ‘Gator’ Thompson (of the shuttered Alcatraces) reinterprets Creole classics for California diners – think organic, pan-fried chicken and black-eyed peas over wild brown rice; N.B. plans are in the works to open Gator’s Back Porch BBQ, an eco-friendly, take-out smokehouse and deli, behind the cafe in the fall.
