Domo, a casual Japanese eatery opening in Hayes Valley (511 Laguna St.), is a joint venture between Isa chef-owner Luke Sung and his longtime friend, Ku Wa, another veteran cook. Short for the Japanese phrase for "thank you" ("domo arigato"), it will offer beer and sake in a snug (just 20 seats), minimalist setting with an everyday hangout vibe that isn’t meant to compete with nearby Sebo. Designed much like a seafood spot you’d see in Japan, it will feature dim lighting and a sauna-like interior with lots of unfinished wood. It's slated to open around Christmas time.
