Paul Newman – actor, restaurateur and wholesome-food magnate – is getting ready to sell Cabernet and Chardonnay under his Newman's Own label. If you want a glass before it hits the market in March, you can get a sneak peek at a dinner hosted by Fleming's Steak House this Tuesday, February 26th. Even better, Newman won't be the only Hollywood poohbah honored at the event as Francis Ford Coppola's wines, which aren't too shabby themselves, will be poured as well.
The five-course meal pairs the stars' wines with seared Arctic char, glazed duck breast (in Newman's Own Teriyaki, natch) and filet "Corleone" with porcini mushrooms. To add to the fun, there will also be a red carpet awaiting diners at the door, Newman's classic The Color of Money rolling on the screen and Hollywood trivia questions passed around.
The event, which is being held in all Fleming's locations nationwide over the course of the week, has already almost booked up at the Walnut Creek location but there is still lots of space left in Palo Alto (6:30PM; $95 per person; call individual restaurants for reservations).
