The General's Daughter closed on August 1st, but the home-***-restaurant it inhabited in Sonoma won't be empty for long. Sondra Bernstein (owner of the girl & the fig and fig cafe & winebar), along with her executive chef John Toulze, has signed a lease for the historic Victorian with an option to buy. The duo plans to reopen it in mid-September under the new moniker Estate with an Italian-Mediterranean menu by way of Sonoma. They also plan to
take full advantage of the bounty from the property's extensive edible gardens (hence
the name Estate). Before The General's Daughter closed, its chef, Preston Dishman, announced that he was leaving with the hope of opening his own restaurant
in the area, so keep an eye out for that (400 W. Spain St., Sonoma).
