Scott Howard, formerly of Marin’s Fork (now Dreamfarm) and his now-closed eponymous restaurant in San Francisco, is hoping his third time behind the stoves is the charm. He’s slated to be the executive chef of Five, the flagship restaurant in Berkeley’s historic Hotel Shattuck Plaza, which is currently undergoing a multimillion-dollar renovation. Due to open in the spring (possibly as early as April), Five will feature Howard’s signature ingredient-driven Californian cuisine running the gamut from cheesy macaroni to roasted sweetbreads with truffled potato purée. An adjoining lounge will showcase organic wines, cocktails made with fresh-squeezed juices and a midday bar snack menu (2086 Allston Way).
