Benefits for Humane Society, New Orleans Museum

Saturday, June 9: Break out your black-tie attire and a glittery leash for your “date” at the Washington Humane Society's pooch-friendly gala at the Renaissance Washington, DC. Yes, dogs are welcome to take a spin on the dance floor, and many do (7 PM; $250 per person; 999 Ninth St. NW; 202-723-5730).

Sunday, June 10: Put some South in your mouth at the Invitation to the Southern Table, a walk-around tasting event at Acadiana to benefit New Orleans' forthcoming Southern Food & Beverage Museum, slated to open in 2008. Expect to find classic Southern dishes made by local chefs Jeff Tunks of Acadiana, Jeff Buben of Vidalia and Ann Cashion of Cashion's Eat Place, as well as from Linton Hopkins of Atlanta's Restaurant Eugene (6–9 PM; $100 per person; 202-222-0987; http://southernfood.org).
