Special Wine Dinners in August

August 2: Sample the products of a wine tradition that began in Roman times at this five-course Lebanese wine dinner held at Tabaq that will pair choices from several Lebanese wineries with chilled red-pepper-and-tomato soup, goat cheese and roasted vegetables in pastry, orata with sage mash, herb-and-mushroom-stuffed lamb and a fig-and-apple tart (7-9:30 PM; $78 per person; 202-244-3700).

August 8: Sette Bello will host a dinner and wine class that aims to demystify "terroir." During the four-course dinner, participants will learn about grape varietals grown in different regions and how various wine-making processes give away tell-tale signs to the knowledgeable taster (7 PM; $70 per person; 703-741-0404).

August 23: Spend an evening in a quaint French bistro without leaving town at Petit Plats’ lavish four-course wine dinner that begins with an amuse bouche of salmon tartar and country pate and includes red snapper with ratatouille, coquille St. Jacques with stuffed rigatoni, veal scaloppini and a floating island for dessert; the all-French wine pairings will help create the illusion of a mini-vacation (7–10 PM; $85 per person; 202-244-3700).
