Washington D.C.

Two New Suburban Hot Spots Open on October 23

Nicaro, a stylish Contemporary American from chef–owner Pedro Matamoros (ex Tabard Inn), will add a fresh dimension to the Silver Spring dining scene when it opens next Tuesday; its chic bar/lounge and dining room is done up in a cool sage green, and its midpriced menus will feature housemade terrines, smoked salmon and charcuterie; uncommon brunch offerings like kitchen-crafted tasso ham with grits or duck and potato hash are likely to draw a Sunday scene (8229 Georgia Ave.; 301-588-2867).

Fine dining partners with Big Band–era entertainment in Old Town to create Carlyle Club, a colossal supper club–style restaurant, bar/lounge and dance venue whose eye-popping art deco interior is inspired by NYC’s Rainbow Room; classic American surf 'n' turf fare will be served in its formal, semicircular dining room while live piano music plays at lunch and jazz ensembles amuse at dinner; special prix fixe menus will be offered for the nights when headliners like the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra take the stage (411 John Carlyle St.; 703-549-8957).
