They're Never Too Young to Become Foodies

If you're dismayed that your kid prefers Cheetos over artisanal cheese, then you might want to sign up both of you for Children’s Day of Taste: From the Garden to the Table. Geared toward ages seven–13 and their adult companions, this tasting tour led by chef Ris Lacoste (Rock Creek) focuses on healthy eating and seasonal ingredients. The day begins at Clyde's of Gallery Place with samples of fresh farm produce. Then it’s off to nearby Cowgirl Creamery for learning about and nibbling on various cheeses. Next stop is Poste Moderne Brasserie to visit the chef’s organic garden and pick fresh herbs. The loop ends back at Clyde's for a hands-on salad-making session in the kitchen. Tours take place Saturday mornings on April 26th, May 3rd and May 10th (9:30 AM–12:30 PM; $184 for each child-adult pair; $138 for Smithsonian Associates members; 707 Seventh St. NW; 202-633-3030; for tickets go to http://residentassociates.org).
