Fine food isn't normally the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of the National Zoo, with one major exception: ZooFari, the annual outdoor fund-raiser. On May 15th, more than 100 of the area's finest vintners and restaurants – including Central, Kinkead's, 2941 and Vidalia – will be dishing up their specialties to highlight the zoo's efforts to save frogs, toads, salamanders and other amphibians from global extinction. Held on the park grounds, the event will feature animal encounters, a silent auction and live music with dancing under the stars (6:30–10 PM; $175 per person; $125 for Friends of the National Zoo [FONZ] members; tickets are available at
www.fonz.org/zoofari.htm; 202-633-4470).
