Celebrate Nowruz, the Persian New Year, at the Smithsonian Freer and Sackler Galleries on Saturday, March 7. There will be art, music, dancing, storytelling, and "fire jumping" – performed over a replica blaze – as well as a chance to sample traditional festival food such as ash-e-reshteh, a noodle and bean soup, prepared from cookbook author and chef Najmieh Batmanglij’s recipes. She’ll be on hand to talk about holiday customs and cuisine from 11 AM–5 PM (activities begin at 10:30 AM and are free; food costs $5–$7 a plate; get more info).
