Sip mint juleps at the Round Robin Bar's Kentucky Derby party.
Bonnets and bowties are de rigueur – and will be eligible for prizes – at the Willard hotel’s annual Kentucky Derby celebration, happening May 2 in its Round Robin Bar. The event includes a Southern buffet and two of its famous mint juleps for the $75 entry fee. Festivities begin at 4 PM, with the race being viewed at 6:05 PM; reservations aren’t required. The hotel will also host parties for the Preakness (May 16) and Belmont (June 6) Stakes with appropriately themed food and drink (202-628-9100).
The Jockey Club at the Fairfax hotel is also getting in on the Derby fun, offering race-ready drinks in its lounge and a $45 prix fixe menu (from 5:30–9:30 PM) in its dining room. Enthusiasts are invited to sport equestrian attire (202-835-2100).
Over at the St. Regis, there will be prizes awarded for the best hats at its Derby day party, as well as for revelers who pick the winner of the race. Libations like the hotel’s classic mint julep and “Champagne and Pearls,” along with small bites from Adour, will help fuel the fun (3–7 PM; for reservations, call 202-509-8000).
