The Liberty Tavern talents have a penchant for turning historic Clarendon edifices into affordable eateries. Next up, slated for late 2009/early 2010, is Lyon Hall (3100 Washington Blvd.), a French- and Belgian-influenced brasserie with a wine and beer focus – there will be 20 taps (mostly European) and plenty of vino by the glass. Test items for the new venture can be found on the Tavern’s current menu, including a ‘Pittsburghese’ platter of housemade bratwurst, bacon and frankfurters, and a skate schnitzel preparation. The name is a reference to "Lyon Village" – what the neighborhood used to be called.
Meanwhile, their plans to reopen the shuttered Murky Coffee space (3211 Wilson Blvd.), a 103-year-old former fire department and citizens' hall, should be realized by Thanksgiving. While there is no decision on a moniker, the new spot will continue to serve artisanal joe, along with sandwiches on house-baked breads, wine and beer.
