Does anyone have any suggestions for good burgers in the UWS?

Thanks!

Have you had a burger at Peter Lugers? Great choice for a Saturday afternoon.

Five Guys is just awful. It is an easy restaurant to get an upset stomach, seek elsewhere.

To chime in on the Gourmet Burger, go for the db Bistro Moderne on 44th, the first >$25 burger.

It is rather good and the restaurant is consistently good otherwise.

I discovered Five Napkin Burger on 9th Avenue last year and really loved it. It was a big fat juicy burger, and cooked perfectly medium rare with good fries. I checked into Shake Shack burgers cooking methods and discovered that they cook their burgers medium, so therefore I am not interested in even trying them, no matter how popular they are.

I live in New Orleans. Port of Call is the most overrated burger on the planet. The outside of the burger is always burnt. The cheese is cold and unmelted and the buns are not too soft. Next time you are in town go to Harbor Bar and Grill on 17th street in Metairie.
I live to travel.

Try the regular burger at good restaurant. They will really cook it to your order, and the french fries are also fabulous. Worth the calories.

New York CIty is a burger town, and you can while away many happy (and some not-so-happy) hours sampling the various burgers around town. That's what I've done over the years, and I have found three places that consistently serve up terrific burgers at reasonable prices. They are, in order of taste preference:

Peter Luger burger (only served at lunch, but a real bargain at under $10 base price)
City Hall burger (a huge burger with all the sides you'd want, base price $16)
Dumont Burger (incorrectly described earlier here as fast-food -- for an extra treat try a half size order of their mac and cheese, but don't miss either their full size burger at $12.50 base price, or their equally good mini-burger at 9.50 base price)

If I'm in the mood for a burger and can't get to any of the above, I generally look for an Irish pub. I have found most Irish pubs serve up a decent and creditable burger at a reasonable price.

But do yourself a favor and at least once in your life try each of the three mentioned above. You may or may not agree with my comments, but you won't regret your experiences.
