    Rolf's French Bavarian Brasserie
    281 3rd Ave
    New York, NY 10010-5501
    Phone: (212) 477-4750

I can't find this place in Zagat's (I am new) but it came very highly recommended to me by a local. I personally haven't been, but we are going for Christmas Eve this year. It's not Italian, but my understanding is that the food, decor and atmosphere are all amazing.

Rolf's is not near Times Square. Carmine's is a popular family style Italian near Times Square good for a party of 4 or more as portions are large and meant to be shared. Warning, it gets very loud. If you're just 2, Trattoria Trecolori, Basilica, Tramonti are some other options. Roberto Passon might also work.

Rolf's is a fun and interesting place - food is supposed to be French/Bavarian, a mix I don't fully understand. I think the inside of the restaurant is supposed to feel like the Black Forest with trees and strange vines all around. The real treat here is during the holidays when they do all kinds of lights and decorations which are truly unique. The food is completely mediocre but the setting is definitely unique.
