    Young foodies = future critics

Check out this New York Times article about a 12-year-old New Yorker who aspires to be a food-critic, specifically for Zagat!

I tried to think back to how old I was when I started to appreciate food, when I became a foodie: I was 16 and the dish was a mushroom risotto with shaved truffles.

What was the meal that made you start to dish? What restaurants and cuisines turned you on to the culinary world? What was your first foodie ah-ha moment?

Now I am showing my age, but when I was a kid, you did not eat out that often, on very very special occasions, maybe 2-3 times a year, yes a year. So many of the younger generations think they have to eat out nearly everyday, and they do not even appreciate it. This is probably why obesity is so bad, they eat out at fast food restaurants and they are known to have have fat content and then they go home and play with their Wii's and never get any exercise. When I was growing up, we did not eat out often and we had chores we had to do, this helped us become responsible and also kept us from being obese.
