Re: Zagat iPhone App is here!

I have to say I'm a bit discouraged by your pricing policy. It appears (please correct me) that I have to pay full price for this app even with my Zagat's web subscription. Worse it appears that I get 95% of the functionality of the web for $9.95 Vs the $24 I pay for the web? I'm surprised that loyal web users can't get a prom code for $1.99 that adds this service. If I'm not missing something I see no reason why I wouldn't cancel my web membership next year and move to the iphone interface for $15 less per year? In my mind I'm an existing customer and as such I should see some benefit from a second form of access to the same data. The incremental cost to provide this app to me is low and your pricing policy should reflect that. I'll simply use the free Urbanspoon app before I spend an extra $10 to get what I already paid for.  I don't believe I'm the only customer that will offer this critique.

Hi TravelwithZ and thank you for your post. Unfortunately, the iPhone Application Store does not offer integration with promotions, codes, or discounts. We'll be sure to take your feedback into consideration if the store's functionality changes in the future.

Re: Zagat iPhone App is here!

    I'll jump in...

First, why is there a tab hawking random third-party iPhone games? I've paid for this- I don't need advertising

Second, why can't I tap on a phone number to dial it? Seems to work for US restaurants but nowhere else.

Actually, you've really messed up the dialing function - you're selling this internationally, but haven't put in proper international dialing codes. For example, the numbers in the US should be displayed +1 555 etc, while UK numbers should be +44 207 etc). That way any iphone phone can dial them whatever country you're in. Instead, you've put in US destinations without bothering with the +1 international code, so non-US iphones won't be able to dial them (even if they're in the US), and included the 'dial international from the US' code (011 etc) on non-US destinations, which will only work from the USA. So even an american roaming in in the UK won't be able to dial. Can you get someone with a passport to give some input to the next version? Either do international or don't.

Next, the location search is fiddly. I can see two use cases: nearest place, or lookup by name. But I can't switch between the two without editing my location. SUppose I'm in Brooklyn and I want to find a nearby bar, and then I want to look up a restaurant in Manhattan. I need first to set my location to where I am now and restrict the distance to 1 mile, and then go back to location and change to New York. Tiresome.

Finally, the location search is occasionally unreliable - Searching with a 1 mile radius I get five restaurants around the corner and one on the other side of London - maybe 4 miles away as the crow flies? Pont Street is not near Camden!

But I still love the app!

This was EXACTLY my reaction. I'm off to cancel my web subscription and stick with the much cheaper iPhone app.
