Re: Best Burger in the city?
I have to share...one of the best burgers I've had lately ( cheddar bacon burger) in Manhattan has been at Atlantic Grill on the upper east side....

Re: Best Burger in the city?
I really like the burgers at Brasserie Julien, 3rd Ave at at 80-81st St.
So many calories, so little time!

Re: Best Burger in the city?
I've actually never had a Shake Shack burger because I refuse to wait on that line. I've always liked Island Burger on 9th Avenue. Very high quality beef, properly seared, and lots of those clear purple juices like those you'd get from a good steak. They don't serve French Fries but you can get a salad or baked potato and a bag of chips.
I went to Corner Bistro once, many years ago, and wondered what the fuss was about. I found the burger very greasy.

Try Genesis Bar & Restaurant on the UES, Second Ave @ 88th. My husband said it was good, though JG Melons is still his favorite in the city.

Re: Best Burger in the city?
try the Ear Inn the city's oldest bar, terrific burger. I agree that Corner Bistro is over rated and the place is a dive much like The Ear but the Ear delivers with high quality .

P.J.Clarke's, on Third Ave at 55th (downstairs, not up); as Zen burgers go (if that's not an oxymoron), their's are the best. The physical surroundings -the front room, I mean- don't hurt at all, either.

Re: Best Burger in the city?
I am willing to pay for a good burger, I have no problem shelling out 20-plus for a great one, but Five Guys is superior to all.

Re: Best Burger in the city?
Sorry but through the years I have had burgers on every trip to NYC from FL. I have tried many, many places. To me the best by far is at Corner Bistro! (Yes, it is a dive, etc. but man that burger and those fries are second to none.) My second choice would be Dumont Burger. [Correction: Dumont, not Dumont Burger. The restaurant Dumont is a place to really spend time and enjoy, as opposed to the Dumont Burger is more like fast food.]
Also: best burger on the planet can be had at the Port of Call in New Orleans at the corner of Dauphine & Esplanade. This everyone agrees that has had the experience. I usually go twice while in town if I can and have had raves and raves from young and old alike. Don't miss it!

Re: Best Burger in the city?
There are 2 places that have the best burgers in the City.
brgr - great burgers, fries & shakes here. Burgers are made to order.
Cosy Burgers (in the Village.) Burgers here are cheap, huge and messy. You need two hands to hold them.
Shake Shack burgers are good, but compared to the other two places, they're small.

Have you eaten there recently? I feel it's gone downhill (as far as the quality of the burgers goes). After a disappointing trip there a few months back, a colleague told me that they pre-cook their burgers now, and reheat them on the grill.

Re: Best Burger in the city?
1 - Corner Bistro 2 - 5 Guys 3 - Burger Joint @ Le Parker Meridian 4 - DB Modern Bistro 5 - JG Mellons
***I have not had a shake shack burger***
EDIT: had shake shack today at UWS location and I would rank it a tie for 3rd w/Burger Joint

Re: Best Burger in the city?
I can't help noticing that this discussion focuses on a handful of ultra-trendy Manhattan restos. Does no one have a sense of adventure or a MetroCard? Julius's on West 10th Street has served a great burger since its customers were heterosexuals, and 67 Burger, on Lafayette Avenue in Brooklyn serves plump patties expertly cooked with a well-chosen choice of toppings. Try the Ranch with cheddar cheese.
Let the adventure continue...

Re: Best Burger in the city?
I love burgers as much as the next guy; but eating a burger on a trip to New Orleans is like taking a peanut butter and jelly sandwich to a smorgasbord!
