Atmosphere is king at this transporting West Village bar/lounge, set in a longtime, seen-it-all waterfront hotel that sheltered Titanic survivors in 1912 and more recently housed an avant-garde theater; the “perfectly detailed” design is a riff on fading grandeur with soaring ceilings, an airy mezzanine and kooky objets d’art (a “glass-encased stuffed monkey”, a dilapidated disco ball, refrigerator-size urinals); neighbor troubles shuttered the main ballroom for a time, but it’s back now, and the door’s as “tough” as ever.
