The restaurant’s environment distracts the diner from the food; [which is a good thing] if one would call what they serve is food! If you prefer tasteless pre-frozen entrees as a dining experience then this is the place for you. Mashed potatoes scooped from ice cream scoops, Sysco food menu, diluted drinks, entrees description on menu versus what one receives would be a complete coincidence. Coffee without a spoon, dinner plate - no fork.
Always busy but consistently good. The restaurant has a charming local history going back to pre-revolutionary times: Washington's troops, Indian attacks and ghosts. Ate there three times in the past month. Twice with business guests and once on Mother's Day. Place was packed on Mother's DAy and I lowered my expectations but was pleasantly surprised by eight good meals. Wait staff a bit inexperienced but not a real problem.
This place confuses me. The venue, prices, and the menu say high end, old-school new england dining, but the service and the food say slightly upscale alternative to a mall chain restaurant. The host staff and half the wait staff look like they are still in high school and bring the corresponding level of finesse. We had a party of 6 and our food was mixed, some dishes were quite nice, others would have been at home at a Fridays.
We consistently enjoy Abigail's. Specials are fairly priced and well prepared. Can be very noisy when groups present, which happens regularly.
Wonderful reincarnation of the New England Tavern that sits where the Chop House stood. New decor is wonderful. Comfortable without losing the authenticity of New England charm. Sundays and Tuesday a prix fixe is a fabulous bargain. Accommodating staff always tries to please. Great additional to Simsbury dining
