I've been frequenting the Ancient Mariner for years. Always a good burger but, sorely lacking in atmosphere. Now, since there is a new and inovative chef Tom Stevens serving up daily specials and some down home cooking-the restuarant has been re-jenvunated. I adore all 4 types of mussels on the menu. The gorgonzola meatloaf is a must. The duck quesadilla is to die for. The list goes on. You want a good meal with no fan fare. This is a must!!!
used to go all the time when the kids were little. burgers and sandwiches rarely missed. saw that they had re-vamped recently , new chef and new menu. paid a visit and tried out the new dinner menu. disappointed. very. should have stuck with a burger
Inconsistently, 'the best burgers in Ridgefield'. Don't do take out, dry and overcooked. Another Ridgefield restaurant which need a spruce up. Lots of bar people. Can get crowded on weekends. Nothing otherwise special about his place and food.
We after hearing some great reviews of the burgers, we were sorely disappointed in them and the other selections we made. The chopped steak was a thin slab of unflavored meat. But none of that was as bad as the service. For two items, we were eventualy told that the kitchen had "forgotten." One of our group asked for two appetizers to be served at the same time, and they weren't. The estimated 30-minute wait for a table ended up 1 hour.
Steamers are intermittently sandy but other wise good. Burgers are superb and service is excellent. Majority of meals are mediocre, lots of bar fly. Good for quick meal. Good for quick family meals. French fries are tasty but prices are high for family meal.
