If the 'Cafe' is intended as an intro to lure you to the main restaurant it is not successful, as it is so good that most will not opt to go anywhere else. Yes, the wines are a tad 'pricey' but you definitely get what you pay for; and so it is with the food. from the crusted mozzarella appetizer through to the signature bombellini it is all memorable.
Fresh and perfectly cooked pastas, excellent seafood and meats (concur with others that the wild boar ragu in particular is wonderful), and the cheese selection is as good as marketed. Appetizer selection falls down a little bit; the salads in particular lack balance/flavor and are heavy on lettuce. In-house gelato are innovative and 80% well-executed. Price, however, is very steep, even at a discount from Spiaggia. Not sure it's adequate value.
I was only here for lunch, but everything was excellent. Friendly staff, very tasty food, good red wine by the glass.
One of Chicago's best lunch spots
A great way to experience Spiaggia food at a more reasonable price point.
