consistent food - inconsistent service, last few trips seem to be getting better. lobsters well prepared. generous portions. food better, service still touch and go
This place has plummeted since the buyout, mostly due to the service. The waiter was the worst kind of "upsell-robot" I've ever experienced, and I live in Manhattan. He wouldn't even answer straightforward questions about various entrees--he'd use that as an excuse to push a different (more expensive) entree or try to talk us into lava cake that allegedly took 30 minutes to prepare but mostly locked in a bigger bill. Yuck!
Ate there twice in past week. Great ambiance--one of Boston's oldest buildings, was once John Hancock's warehouse. And the food was far better than any other Chart House I've eaten in around the country. Only disappointment: although on the water, no water views.
I have been to many of the other Chart Houses in the US. We all had seafood and it was surprisingly very good. Unfortunately, we had a table near the kitchen door on the second floor and turned out to be very busy with the in and outs. Plus a floor board was loose near my chair and it shook every time a server walked by. The building is historic, so make sure you ask about its history. Would visit again, but different table. Our server was new.
Nice decor and surrounding. The food does not match the ambience. Food is just ok.
