Food is very good, definitely a casual environment. Best bet - have lunch at the bar....chowder, steamers, fried fish and you won't be disappointed.
The Squire is a pub favored by locals and visitors alike. It is the rare opportunity to not wait for a table given its popularity. Squire clam chowder is the gold standard.
GREAT smoked bluefish!! Good chowder. We stop at least once every summer. Last summer, the service left something to be desired. Understandably, the staff was stressed given the crowds and the wait, but the hostess was just downright rude. We were so put off by the treatment, that we left, not to return at all last summer.
You are not going to eat here for the fanciest fare. If you are looking for fine dining in an intimiate atmosphere, head to the Impudent Oyster. The Squire is a place where locals and tourists alike grab affordable seafood after a long day on the boat or at the beach. The Squire is a Chatham institution (especially the late night bar scene) and no trip to Chatham would be complete without at least one dinner here.
Oh just stop complaining, the Squire is exactly what it has always been, reasonably priced good food in a family pub that is not pretentious. The noise is part of the charm, the hustling wait staff do what they can to keep up with everything. The Captains platter and other seafood offerings are consistently good. The wine list is affordable. Charming hostess, pleasant servers, if you're looking for the Four Seasons go back to Boston.
