We've been there multiple times and have always had a great meal, which keeps us coming back. Ate there yesterday, April 9th, and enjoyed a wonderful three pasta special featuring fettuccine alfredo, lasagna and veal tortellini. Rest of the family equally enjoyed their salmon, eggplant and chicken parmigiana. On weekends I would recommend eating early when they open or making reservations as it has always crowded when we've gone.
The area so sorely needs a decent non-deli - pizza restaurant. One wonders that Doc's can't raise the level as it appears to have the tools, including a good location. A number of mediocre experiences makes it a puzzle. The food is adequate. The service is adequate. The decor is adequate. But it needs a chef interested in good food.
Was not particularly impressed. Found the restaurant to be a Manhattan wannabe - not what I want in Connecticut. The subtle pretention and inflated prices were not matched by really great food.
Doc's is a great place to go for a casual dinner or lunch. The atmosphere is bubbly, and it's especially nice in warmer weather when you can take advantage of their broad terrace.
Service is very spotty. Wait staff could do with some training -- for example, bring the wine in time to enjoy with the meal!
