The place looks like a little cabin! The employees seem friendly and they care about your tastes. The food is expensive, but you get a large serving. The sandwiches and burgers tend to get messy, so be careful not to make a mess!

This is one of the best places on long island to get a cheese burger! I have only been there once but it held up to it's reputation. My boyfriend always gets the cheese dream and is never disappointed. Always makes everyone at the table look at it. great place!!! Wish I knew about it sooner!

Memory makes favorite restaurants even better over the years. The Good Steer was a favorite when we raised our kids on the Island and after 25 years of thinking about it we traveled 2 hours to revisit. The grandchildren agreed that the cheese dream is worth the trip. The burger is great, the onion rings are the best. You still have to wait for a table at this consistently good fifty year old eatery.

The McCarroll's and our family tradition since before we were a family. My wife and I have been devouring "Cheese Dreams" - the best burger in town - since 1967, when we were dating and there were few off-campus eateries around the Stony Brook campus. As their sign says: Not just one of the herd!
