Had to come to Houston on business. Eating here was the "reward" for suffering through the rest of this ghastly place. It is the only "Goode" thing about Houston. The seafood is fresh and not overcooked. The boiled shrimp are big, meaty, and firm. The other dishes, plain or fancy, are very well prepared. There is a lot of choice on the menu. Service was friendly and fast.
I was pretty disappointed. My Dad was the chef at Kaphan's restaurant here in Houston from the 50's until the late 90's when it closed. They served steak & seafood and people to this day still rave about the food from Kaphan's. I thought I was taking my Dad to comparable restaurant and we were totally unsatisfied. The breading on the fried shrimp was just plain corn meal with no seasoning. There was no "special flavor" to anything. Won't go back.
Nice place for good meal. Good service. Get the Campechana as appetizer. Mesquite grilled fish is very good as well.
Always a treat.
Great grilled seafood and gumbo.
